Pracktical task 1

Todorov's theory of narrative

Put the theory into practice through pictures using our own original idea of a stabbing. We used our peers for actors and the school quad for the setting.

The first shot, Equilibrium, shows a girl waiting for a friend after class. The costume shows that she is in a educational or professional environment. The hair and make up is subtle and natural suggesting to the audience that she is quite young.

This second shot, Distruption, shows the arrival of a murderer disguised as a pupil at the school. The setting, of a school court yard ,which would be a familiar setting to her given her costume, we did this to suggests that she has no reason to feel unsafe, but this is juxtaposed by the meaning over the shoulder shot of the murderer.

The 3rd shot, realisation, shows the boy pulling a knife out of his pocket. We chose the prop of a knife shows the sinister intentions of the boy and creates suspense for the audience.

The 4th shot shows the murder reading to throw the knife. We directed the boy to look angry and scary to show the audience that he is bad through character expression.

The 5th shot shows the knife flying through the air. Again the prop of a knife connotes danger.

The 6th shot shows that the girl has been hit by the knife and murdered. We tried to make the lighting dark to suggest a sad and sinister moment.
