Review of IT Chapter Two

On Thursday the 19th of September me and my friends went to Odeon Cinema and watched IT Chapter Two. Me, not being much of a horror movie buff, had not seen the first film, however I feel that this did not effect my understanding of the story. So, there we were hands buried in the popcorn lips pursed around a straw gingerly sucking up our tango ice blast ready for the scare of a life time.

Never in my life have I been so petrified and so much in hysterics at the same time.

Watching the film in a cinema only bettered the experience, the audience laughed together and screamed together we came out feeling closer, like the characters in the film, because we had all gone through the experience together.

This film gives an unique experience to the viewer like none other before it. A Horror film where you don't laugh at the poor acting or over dramatic facial expressions. This maybe be due the fact the main characters are now grown up so the idea of adults being scared by silly things like naked grandmas and giant lumberjacks. These things, although silly, were perfectly timed to make the viewer jolt back in surprise then quickly break out in hysterics, for example when James Ransone's character Eddie fought off the zombie then it exploded black goo all over him.

James along with Bill Harder (Richie)  provided the comic relief that the audience need and delivered most of the laughs in the film. However, Bill was able to show off his Emmy award winning acting talents towards the end of the film. These two characters were complimented by James McAvoy's character (Bill), who kept the plot grounded to stop it reaching the line of ridiculousness. However he is portrayed as quite naïve still and is easily fooled. Jay Ryan's character (Ben) was the glue that held the group together he looked out for everyone in the group but he was emotionally stable unlike Bill who was easily effected by Pennywise's tricks. The story of Ben provided a heart warming and touching element to the film.

These characters combined, provides the perfect balance for a film which at it's root is Horror but it's really so much more than that.
