my short film: initial inspiration

My teacher gave me this book, as I expressed an interest in doing something mystical. I found this book a great inspiration for my short film. I was really drawn in by the feel of fairy tales, often mixed with something a little grim. I think the idea of childhood stories and fairy tales can easily be made very chilling and eerie. I like the simplistic and also visually stimulating imagery which goes along with stories. I am a big fan of a lot of Tim Burtons films and would love to include some of his influence in my piece as his work too is often based of off a enchanted fairy tale sway. I like his style of animation and could possibly include this in my own piece.





This story called 'The red shoes' found in this book was particularly interesting to me as I am a fan on ballet. In my short film I want to include a ballet influence, as I feel ballet is very graceful and majestic and this fits well with the feel of enchanted fantasy stories as well as fairy tales.

short film plan       Genres:  Horror- suspense = instant entertainment, easy to watch. However cannot be to gory or anything as I do not have accesses to SFX however I could do more research into make up effects. Action- would be hard to pull off, could contact local services to get necessary shots. Real film- inspiration for short film???

On a recent particularly rainy day me and my dad sat down and watched the 2019 horror/mystery "Midsommar".  My dad thought it was too long and too boring and that it didn't make any sense. However, I thought that it was a very clever film that normalised what was happening. Once it had finished I reflected on how the outrageous and graphic some of the scenes were, I felt as though while watching it everything is done subtly and the "anti" is slowly upped so that in real time I felt less shocked or felt that some how these steps were rational in a way.  I also really enjoyed the juxtaposition of the naturalistic imagery of flowers and fields and cliffs and stone to the violent imagery of blood and suicide and graphic death. (Levi Strauss theory of binary opposites). I loved how they kept the audience guessing and left/revealed little clues and hints along the way so that in the end it all "made sense", I liked how the end left the audience wanting

I love the inspiration from fairy tales and the settings idea, being an avid walker myself. I am concerned about how you will manage to get everyone to my house for some of the filming and how long that will take.
