 Timothy Walter Burton is an American filmmaker, animator, and artist. He is best known for his gothic fantasy and horror films such as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Dark Shadows, and Frankenweenie.

Tim Burtons style is called Gothic suburbia its a very distinctive style. He combines 19th and 20th century visuals and images to create a gothic sort of film that has dark implications hidden in a children's movie, that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I really feel inspired by his style and work. I want my film to have a gothic feel with darker more morbid undertones.

short film plan       Genres:  Horror- suspense = instant entertainment, easy to watch. However cannot be to gory or anything as I do not have accesses to SFX however I could do more research into make up effects. Action- would be hard to pull off, could contact local services to get necessary shots. It would be very entertaining and keep audience focus Crime/Mystery- something that keeps audience guessing trying to figure out what's going on, might be hard to do as everything ahs to be very particular, utilises all of mise en secene. Real film- inspiration for short film???

On a recent particularly rainy day me and my dad sat down and watched the 2019 horror/mystery "Midsommar".  My dad thought it was too long and too boring and that it didn't make any sense. However, I thought that it was a very clever film that normalised what was happening. Once it had finished I reflected on how the outrageous and graphic some of the scenes were, I felt as though while watching it everything is done subtly and the "anti" is slowly upped so that in real time I felt less shocked or felt that some how these steps were rational in a way.  I also really enjoyed the juxtaposition of the naturalistic imagery of flowers and fields and cliffs and stone to the violent imagery of blood and suicide and graphic death. (Levi Strauss theory of binary opposites). I loved how they kept the audience guessing and left/revealed little clues and hints along the way so that in the end it all "made sense", I liked how the end left the audience wanting

 I asked people that I know what they think of my short film: Here they are: My Nan, Jean: "It sounds very exciting to me! I love the inspiration from fairy tales and the settings idea, being an avid walker myself. I am concerned about how you will manage to get everyone to my house for some of the filming and how long that will take.
